Yoga Studio & Yoga Classes
The long-practiced tradition of yoga dates back to ancient India and has roots in each of the country’s ancient religions. It is just one of six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophical tradition. It emphasizes physical, mental, and spiritual harmony. Today, yoga remains ever prevalent and is a heavily practiced workout. It aims to stretch your body and muscles, make you more flexible, and improve your mental and physical strength. It takes hours of practice, but is completely worth it. Here at iMassage in Layton, we know that yoga is highly beneficial to your health, which is our priority.
There are various types of yoga routines and flows, but iMassage instructors teach three different classes: Vinyasa, Beginner’s Flow, and Sound Meditation.
Vinyasa yoga is one of the most popular styles of yoga and involves coordinating your breathing to your movements in a flow from pose to pose. Translated into English, Vinyasa means “arranging something in a special way”, which is exactly what yoga is. The term Vinyasa also refers to a sequence of poses taught in all Vinyasa classes: Chaturanga to Upward facing dog to downward dog. There is a multitude of Vinyasas ranging in complexity. The cat-cow pose, for example, is very simple and only requires two movements, arching the spine on an inhale and rounding out on an exhale. Sun salutations are far more complex as they consist of many more movements, all of which are cued by an inhale or an exhale. The sequences may be fixed or they may be mixed; it all depends on the instructor’s preference. Vinyasa yoga is ideal for anyone that likes to keep moving as opposed to holding positions for a longer period of time.
Flow yoga is an ideal starting place for beginners in yoga. A lot of advanced yoga involves holding positions for minutes at a time, which doesn’t seem that difficult until you realize that you can barely balance on one foot with your eyes open, let alone with them closed. In yoga, there’s a heavy emphasis placed on breathing and making sure you’re relaxed, sometimes while you’re in some relatively complicated positions. It’s important that you build a strong foundation to be able to execute the harder moves and positions while breathing properly. It’s for that reason that iMassage offers a beginner’s flow yoga class. We want you to feel ready to conquer any and all yoga classes, so we provide you with the first stepping stone on your way to success.
